Sixth Form life at Culford is different. We give students the freedom to be themselves, to follow their passions and discover new ones, within a safe, caring a supportive community.
Academic Excellence: Outstanding Facilities
At Sixth Form we step up a gear academically. We help you to choose the subjects you want to study and you will learn in small classes with highly qualified teachers who are passionate about their subject and will challenge and support you to achieve your best.
Students also have excellent facilities, such as a £2.2 million library with a study mezzanine level reserved for Sixth Formers, modern science centre, dedicated music school and professional Studio Theatre, to name just a few. It is no surprise that students at Culford Sixth Form achieve excellent A Level grades, with many going on to study at the best universities in the UK and abroad.
Excellent Pastoral Care, Excellent Boarding and a Social Life
Culford has superb pastoral care, with the Independent School’s Inspectorate rating the quality of boarding and pastoral care as ‘excellent’ in its 2014/15 report. Over half of Sixth Formers board, and the freedom and responsibility offered by boarding gives students a head start in preparation for life after school. Occasional or part boarding is also offered for those who need a more flexible schedule.
"Culford is a great place to make friends for life."
Sixth Form Pupil
Sixth Form starts with Freshers’ Week, which includes a trip away with two days of team building and fun activities so that everyone gets to know each other really well. Sixth Formers have lunch at Paddy and Scott’s café. There is also a packed weekend activities schedule for boarders and lots of exciting social events during the school year, such as House Dinners, the Highland Ball, themed parties, 'C' Rock Concert and the leavers’ Summer Ball.
Confidence, Leadership and Responsibility
Excellent grades are important but we also place a high value on leadership skills, developing your self confidence and a willingness to try new things. These attributes will stand you in good stead when the time comes to leave full time education and begin your career in whichever field you choose.
There are a whole host of opportunities to help you develop these skills, from becoming a prefect, contributing to School Council or the Combined Cadet Force, through to being a mentor for new pupils or leading one of the many societies and committees.
A chance to make a difference
Each year, a group of Lower Sixth travel to Malawi having fundraised throughout the year to pay for their trip and go on to spend three weeks helping with a variety of projects from building classrooms in schools to teaching English and life skills.
“Going to Malawi was a life changing experience for me, no question. Afterwards I absolutely knew that I wanted to go and become a teacher.”
