West Indian cricketer Alvin Kallicharran will be leading a team of world test cricket legends when they play a charity match at Culford School on Sunday 14 June (2009).
The Lashings World XI Cricket team will play a charity match against the Headmaster’s team at school to raise funds to further improve cricket facilities at Culford, and for the England Cricket Board’s charity ‘Chance to Shine’, which seeks to reinvigorate cricket in state schools.
Alvin, who is Manager of the Lashings World XI Cricket team, has a career tally of 43,986 runs across the course of 24 years with Warwickshire, Transvaal, Queensland, Guyana and, of course, the West Indies, for whom he played 66 tests and 31 one day internationals. Tributes Paid to Old Culfordian and Leading Historian Dr Colin White

Old Culfordian Dr Colin White, one of the UK’s leading experts on the life and achievements of Britain’s greatest admiral, Horatio Nelson, has died aged 57. Dr White, who lived in Southsea, had been suffering from cancer and died on Christmas Day.
Dr White, who attended Culford between 1963 and 1970, was an expert on Admiral Lord Nelson and became director of the Royal Naval Museum, in Portsmouth, two years ago.
President of the Old Culfordians Association Arthur Diaper, who met Dr White at school and remained a close friend, said: "Colin was very friendly and outward going. He would always give you a big hug - most men hold back, but not Colin.
"He was involved in amateur dramatics at school and he was a showman when he was acting - I admired that about him, but he was modest with it."
Dr White (OC 1963-1970) returned to Culford School in 2006 to deliver a lecture on the story of Admiral Lord Nelson and his part in the Battle of Trafalgar.
Headmaster Julian Johnson-Munday said: “Colin was a good friend to the school and much enjoyed returning to it recently. His lecture on Nelson showed Colin at his best: warm, spontaneous, deeply erudite and passionate about his subject. He will be much missed by all who knew him."
Dr White's funeral took place on Monday 12 January at the Anglican Cathedral in Portsmouth.
