Teaching and Learning
Our Philosophy
As well as embracing the whole school philosophy of making learning challenging, enriching and fun, we are also very aware that the Nursery is a child's first taste of formal education. We believe children learn as they play, more importantly, in play, children learn how to learn. Through a combination of adult and child initiated activities we aim to enable our children to love learning and to maintain their natural thirst for knowledge.
The Early years Foundation stage is divided into 6 areas of learning:
Personal, Social and Emotional
Children are encouraged to have a positive sense of themselves and others. They develop their ability to learn with a ‘can do’ attitude as well as to socialise and adapt to new situations.

Communication, Language and Literacy
Communication is the key to all learning. Children learn to listen and in turn, adults listen to them. Children are shown the importance of words by working in a literary environment and being shown the joy and wonder of stories.

Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
Children are provided with a wide range of opportunities to use and play with numbers, shapes and to problem solve. Practical maths is used daily to embed numbers as part of their everyday thinking.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World
We use the extensive park at Culford to offer a wonderful environment to explore animals , plants and nature. We enjoy cooking, ICT and making things from a large number of materials. We enjoy looking at other cultures and supporting various charities.

Physical Development
Children love to be active and time spent learning outdoors is as important as time spent learning indoors. We offer a range of sports including swimming, ballet/dance and tiny tots tennis.

Creative Development
Every child enjoys some kind of creative activity be it music, dance, painting or construction and all are celebrated and nurtured. Children are encouraged to explore all mediums and find their favourite.
