In Culford’s Sixth Form we step up a gear academically. Having chosen your A Level courses your teachers become more like mentors as you explore your interest in their specialist subject. With a small average class size of eight, our A Level courses give you the chance to explore your subjects and allow for an even greater level of individual attention and personalised, supported learning.
Active Learning Journeys
In the Sixth Form we offer a full range of learning activities and you will take a far more active part in lessons which can sometimes lead them into fascinating and unexpected directions. Our approach fuels our students’ passion for their subjects and those of you with a particular zeal for them can become subject ambassadors, advising younger pupils and helping us to improve courses still further.
Support for All
Culford prides itself on being a supportive learning community and we give our Sixth Formers all the support they need to fulfil their academic potential. We provide rigorous and regular assessments, feedback and advice to help you get the grades you need to realise your goals. Students who work hard, listen to our feedback and take our advice often exceed not only our expectations, but also their own.
While providing stretch and challenge for the most able, students who find elements of the course tough can access help through the academic clinics and revision sessions that we run throughout the year. Our teachers are also available for one-to-one help; something our students tell us through their feedback questionnaires is not only appreciated but also of real benefit.
The Open University
Talented Culford students may choose to take The Open University’s degree-style short courses. These courses are designed to extend students’ knowledge, help with their university applications and create individuals you are confident, independent learners. Recent courses studied have ranged from nuclear energy to human genetics.
Sixth Form Extended Project Qualification
By the time they reach the Sixth Form, Scholars’ academic passions will have become clear enough to allow them to undertake an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). An EPQ is the equivalent to half an A Level and demonstrates to leading universities a detailed interest in a specific subject.
