University Entry
As a prospective Sixth Form pupil it is natural that you will want to know something about the support you will receive from us when completing your university application form, better known as your “UCAS” form. This application probably represents the most important document you will ever have completed, and we provide all the information, advice and help you need.
We begin at the very start of your Sixth Form career when your tutor will discuss with you the courses and universities you might be interested in, and guide you towards the resources which you will find the most useful as part of your research. Furthermore, at the end of your Lower Sixth year we organise a conference entitled “Life After Culford”, inviting speakers who will give you an excellent insight into university life and how to get the most from it. Around the same time we also provide all pupils practice interviews, help with writing personal statements, and advice about the best way to spend valuable time during the summer building the portfolio of skills you need for a successful application.
When your return from the summer holiday we move quickly into your final application, providing intensive support, through your tutor and the Head of Further Education, as you complete the form. We carefully proof-read it and provide advice to allow you to maximise your chances of success. We also ensure that your application is submitted well before the national deadline as experience shows this can have a positive effect on your chances of acceptance. We have an excellent record of success using these techniques, with many Culfordians receiving four or five offers, including those who apply for competitive courses at well-known universities.
Whatever your intended course or institution we have knowledgeable staff to help and guide you through what can be a labyrinthine process. We work in partnership with you and your parents to ensure that the process is as straightforward as it can possibly be.
