The Department

We are a modern and creative languages department. Spanish, along with French, is a core subject taught to GCSE level. At A Level we enjoy bringing our top linguists to university standard. The department follows the AQA specification for GCSE and A Level, the latter including literature and film study. The Modern Foreign Languages department is housed in a suite of rooms in one of the main teaching buildings. It has four dedicated classrooms, with an office situated between them. All classrooms have interactive white boards with full wireless internet access for all pupils. We also have a Tenjin digital language lab. The department is close to our £2.3 million school library, which was opened in September 2015. Pupils have a number of lessons in this state-of-the-art building and the department liaises closely with the school librarian over resources and author visits. The Modern Foreign Languages department has generous equipment and subscriptions to Dynamic Learning, Kerboodle and Active Teach. We have a strong tradition of successful results at both GCSE and A Level. The department is ambitious to be a central part of the wider academic life at Culford through offering trips and visits, outside speakers and other opportunities to see pupils engage with the ways in which languages shape the world today. Our current language trips include visits to Barcelona, Tenerife, The Loire Valley and Paris.
