Official Opening of the Golf Short Game Area
Culford Golf marked a momentous occasion on Friday 16 June, as guests gathered to witness the long-awaited unveiling of the Short Game Area.
Acting Head, Claire Bentley, extended a warm welcome while guests enjoyed refreshments in Old Hall. Assistant Head, Dave Watkin, gave a heartfelt insight into the development of golf at Culford over the years. He emphasised the invaluable support from the Royal Worlington Club and Flempton Golf Club, as well as the progress made under the leadership of PGA Professional, Lawrence Dodd.
Mr Dodd, Director of Golf, has been instrumental in the development of golf at Culford, working alongside his team of dedicated PGA professionals. Together, they nurture and mentor pupils of all ages, from Pre-Prep pupils to Sixth Formers, some of whom have already achieved international recognition and earned scholarships at renowned overseas golf universities.
Guests walked across the North Front to the new Short Game Area for the official opening, where Mrs Bentley cut the ribbon. In his opening speech, Mr Dodd explained the intricacies and process of building the high-spec facility. Gratitude was extended to the Old Culfordian Family Trust for their pivotal role in making this new development a reality through their generous donation.
Guests were treated to an impressive display of skills from Culford's golfing scholars and academy players, followed by an opportunity to try their own hand at the sport under the expert eyes of Mr. Dodd, Mr. Sadler, and Mr. Trett - highly accomplished PGA professionals and skilled coaches. A buffet lunch was served in the sunshine before a group of OCs headed to Flempton Golf Club to enjoy a 9-hole round.
One guest shared their appreciation and echoed many of the comments from others “Both of us really enjoyed ourselves meeting new parents and alumni as well as staff. The new short game green is a fantastic facility and will make a significant impact on cohorts Culfordians’ golfing skills.”
