The newly refurbished facility has doubled in capacity and will provide pupils with the opportunity to access state-of-the-art training equipment and top level coaching.
Generously funded by alumni donor Miles Manley OC (2005-2018), the space has been completely transformed, creating two specialised training facilities. Miles is a keen sportsman and whilst at Culford directly benefitted from the Strength and Conditioning team, located in what was a converted squash court. His generous donation has enabled the creation of a state of the art Strength and Conditioning Suite and a Fitness Gym to benefit future Culfordians.
The Strength and Conditioning Suite hosts a brand new Astroturf track, a custom-made rig, two lifting platforms, a plate loaded leg press machine, a reverse hyperextension machine, weights ranging from 2kg-50kg, and much more. The enhanced space now allows pupils to train collectively in teams; while continuing to offer bespoke individual programmes, alongside our All Stars activity sessions for U10's.
Head of Strength and Conditioning, James Earle, explains: ''Last year we saw one hundred and seventy children a week on our Strength and Conditioning programme, this year it looks closer to two hundred. We can now offer team training sessions before school, where our first teams can train collectively. This will alternate weekly between our boys' and girls' teams. We have never been able to accommodate this before, and thanks to our new exceptional facilities, we can. We also have our new Culford All Star's programme for our U10's, targeting our Prep School pupils.''
As part of the development, a new training app has been introduced, James says: ''TeamBuilder will allow pupils to access their training programmes from anywhere in the world, we have gone completely paperless. There are four iPads in the Strength and Conditioning Suite, where pupils can access their programme during sessions.''
Upstairs, the Fitness Suite features a variety of equipment including: a curve treadmill, Airdyne and Watt bikes, a SkiErg machine and pin loaded machines for a full body workout. This area is designed for pupils to access throughout the day, with the aim of encouraging pupils to get involved with fitness independently, for both physical and mental wellbeing.
During his time at Culford, Miles worked with James to recover from major surgery. James says: ''Miles possibly doesn't realise what he has gifted. He has provided the opportunity for pupils to lead a healthy and fulfilled lifestyle, while working towards their sporting goals and ambitions for years to come.''
The Strength and Conditioning Suite's official launch will take place later this term, but until then, here is a video of the facility in action.
