In the Birch Room, our toddlers build on previous experiences and are encouraged to express themselves through mark-making, role play and storytelling.
Our Birch Room offers endless opportunities to play and explore. Resources are carefully placed and set up to enhance the children’s problem-solving skills along with the implementation of sustained shared thinking which is promoted by knowledgeable staff. Children are invited to go to Forest School sessions and take part in weekly dance sessions, with our specialist teacher, which features the fabulous Melody Bear. Rich language is role-modelled by the staff and children are encouraged to share their play ideas and suggestions with one another, forming friendships with their peers. Staff take time to recognise children’s interests and weave these into invitations and provocations of learning. These opportunities form part of the fundamental stepping stones for transition through to our Oak Room.
Garden
Our spacious garden area is filled with pockets of play opportunities and adventurous challenges for the children to explore. Imaginations run free in the Wendy house, amazing sculptures can be created in the construction space, not to mention the endless opportunities to climb on the tyres, climbing frame and stepping stones. Bikes and trikes for all ages are available for the children to self-select and places to mark make are positioned around the garden for the children to chalk, paint, or use natural resources in wet sand and water. It is a space for children to enjoy the wonders of the seasons and discover play in the great outdoors. This is further enhanced with our Forest School sessions and walks around Culford Park.
