Culford School

The Creative Arts

The arts are a fundamental part of human culture and anĀ appreciation and understanding of them is key to being a fully developed person.

Art

The expressive arts are also central to human society. We encourage pupils to be imaginative, creative and passionate in their expression of their views. Drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, textiles and other artistic media are richly explored in our art department. Pupils achieve stunning results each year but, just as importantly, we ensure that we tap the creative impulses of all our students, whatever the skills they possess.

Award-Winning Artists

In recent years a pupil scooped the prestigious Saatchi Gallery/Deutsche Bank Art Prize for Schools for a wonderful A Level sculpture. A number of pupils leave us to further their studies at prestigious art colleges including Central St MartinsChelsea School of ArtFalmouth and Leeds just to name a few.

Design Technology

Design and Technology enables pupils to design and construct imaginative solutions to real needs and problems. They have the opportunity to combine a wide range of resistant materials with mechanical and electrical systems in order to fully develop their ideas. Facilities include a design studio, a systems room and a modern multi-material workshop. Traditional tools and processes combine seamlessly with the use of CAD software and a range of modern equipment including a 3D printer and laser cutter. Pupils are encouraged to be ambitious and creative as they produce high quality outcomes.

Design and Technology students regularly produce exciting products and many go on to study design or engineering at university. We were one of the first schools to join the Arkwright Scholarship Trust and are very proud of the students that have successfully gained scholarships.

The New Art Centre

We recently opened our outstanding new Art Centre. In the space of only one academic year the arts facilities at Culford have been revolutionised with the completion of the new studio. Now at the heart of the Art Centre there is a glass-fronted, modern, dynamic space that can be used for lessons and exhibitions.
