At Culford, we have always been proud of our close ties with the Military, having a number of pupils with parents serving in the armed forces. We know that behind every service child is a story of incredible resilience, adaptability and a unique perspective.

We recognise that the experience of being a service child brings challenges and opportunities. We want to do more than just support our military pupils, we want to champion them. That is why we have developed a dedicated Service Child Programme, designed to help every Service child feel confident, connected and able to thrive throughout their time at Culford.

What is the Service Child Programme?

It isn’t just a support network; it’s a way to make sure our pupils and parents feel firmly rooted here, even when family life involves moves or deployments. It’s about:

Connection & Community
Bringing pupils together to share peer-to-peer experiences.

Identity & Belonging
Helping children feel proud of their military heritage and part of a collective.

Support & Wellbeing
Recognising the unique challenges service children face and providing proactive support.

Celebration & Strength
Collectively marking significant dates in the military calendar.

MOD Continuity of education allowance (CEA)

Service families in receipt of the MOD CEA are offered a discounted full boarding fee, which enables their children to access a Culford education. CEA parents are expected to fund a minimum level of 10% of the school's fees, as required by the MOD. The combination of the CEA funding and the Culford fee remission provides an attractive offer, with only a relatively small sum to be funded by the parents directly.

We understand the unique experiences and needs of Service family children, and they are a valued and integral part of our thriving boarding community. If you would like to find out more, our Admissions team would be delighted to guide you through the process, answer any questions you may have, and help you explore whether Culford is the right fit for your family.

Our Military Boarders

Meet our Service Child Ambassadors

Our Service Child Ambassadors are members of staff from across the school community who bring a wealth of first-hand experience of military life. Many have lived the unique realities of being part of a service family themselves, giving them a genuine understanding of the opportunities and challenges that military life can bring. They are here to offer support, guidance and a listening ear, helping to ensure that every service child and their family feels welcomed, understood and valued throughout their time at our school.
