Culford Drama: Inspiring Excellence at Every Stage

Performing arts take centre stage at Culford; they contribute to shaping well-rounded individuals who can make a significant impact on the world. Under the leadership of Erin Lacey and Jason Calvert, pupils aged one to 18 receive an extensive drama programme designed to inspire creativity and excellence. From LAMDA training to an inclusive Drama Club that welcomes all pupils, the programme encompasses theatre trips, Q&A sessions with industry professionals and immersive workshops. Culford's unique cross-curricular approach encourages Senior pupils with passions for fashion, film and production to explore these interests through GCSE and A Level Drama Technical courses, paving the way into the performing arts industry.

This term saw the launch of the Pre-Prep Drama Club, a weekly class for children as young as one. Using stories by children's author and staff member Victoria Brock, the children are encouraged to re-enact and reimagine her tales. The sessions are supported by enthusiastic Lower Fifth pupils, who assist with narration and direction.

Pupil-led initiatives continue into the Senior School. The Senior Drama Club, led by drama pupils Lucy, Dami and Ursula, offers their peers a weekly opportunity to refine their skills in monologues, duologues, improvisation and rehearsal techniques. Collaborating across year groups, the team are working towards an exciting evening of performances set for next year.
